This year’s FASS Annual Dinner took place on Friday 14th November at the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh. As per usual, it was a night to remember with a wine reception, well presented, delicious food, a few words from our guest speaker, Ronnie Bowie (President of the Faculty of Actuaries) followed by a charity raffle and a disco. A good time was had by all, with Harvard Lee (FASS President) remarking that it was the “best dinner ever”, and many attendees declaring that they were looking forward to coming back next year.
Along with the chance to meet and socialise with fellow actuaries and students, the evening also provided a great opportunity to raise money for Maggie’s cancer charity and Sick Kids Friends Foundation - FASS’s chosen charity for 2008/09. Attendees were invited to make a donation to one of the charities in the hope of winning one of the many great prizes on offer, including a European weekend for two, a £75 gift voucher for Zen Health and Beauty and a Wii Fit. Thank you to all who made a donation - we raised £1,059.
Throughout the evening trainees and actuaries from different companies mingled and towards the end of the night many hit the dance floor for the disco followed by, for some, partying into the wee hours. Overall, the choice of venue and meticulous organisation paid off, and the evening was an astounding success thanks to all the attendees.
